Personal Trainer Kelly Hetzel warns that
If You Don’t Use It, You Will Lose It!
Specifically, If you don't use your muscles you will lose the strength they produce, along with many other benefits.
By age 40, lean muscle mass decreases about 8% per decade until age 70 when muscle loss accelerates to 15% per decade. The good news is that strength training can help slow this process down. While some people like the look of muscles, the truth is the health benefits far outweigh the aesthetics.
Few people know about one of the greatest benefits of muscle – that it helps control blood sugar! The incidence of Type II Diabetes is expected to increase 64% between 2010-2025, and even thin people can develop this problem if they neglect strength training.
Preventing diabetes is just one of the many benefits of strength training. Lifting weights may be a bit uncomfortable at first, but sticking yourself with a needle every day doesn't seem very pleasant at all!
