“We all know what we need to do; we just have to get about doing it.”
Who would have guessed that when I signed up in 2003 to Razor Sharp that I would one day be a member of the month? My story isn’t especially dramatic – no life-changing body remolding. All I represent is how Razor Sharp has allowed me to meet my life challenges.
In my youth, I enjoyed some success in sports and continued to lead an active lifestyle. When my wife and I joined Razor, it provided an environment for us to participate together: we enjoyed dance classes, planned time together for fitness, with some comfortable time to revitalize ourselves at the end of the day in a hot tub!
In 2008, I required some cardiac rehabilitation and had to renew my determination to exercise, take pool classes and get on the dreaded elliptical! I was able to return to my daily family, work, recreational, and service activities that make up a full life.
Life changes in many ways, and a significant personal loss followed. Faith, support of family and friends, work, and physical activity helped me to cope. At this point, I knew I needed some extra support, so I contacted Razor Sharp and was lucky enough to meet Personal Trainer Amanda. She helped to push me at times and keep me interested in my health and fitness.
Of course, challenges always seem to be around the corner. I have had back concerns for many years and in September 2014, I required some surgery. In a number of ways I improved dramatically, but there was some significant nerve injury that resulted in an unexpected rehab admission and extensive physical and occupational therapy. It was difficult, painful, and frustrating, but I was able to return to a semblance of a normal life. Again, it was time to get back in the habit of working with Amanda: machines, weights, mats, walls, the track, the pool – these activities have helped to break down everyday activities into their multiple parts so that I can put them back together in support of what I want to be able to do.
I continue to work out, attend training and see progress. I am a work in process, as we all are. We all know what we need to do; we just have to get about doing it. You may need help, direction, a supportive setting, or an atmosphere to drive you to “Do It”. I have been lucky enough to find a great match at Razor Sharp and hope to continue on my fitness journey here.
Thanks for your recognition. I wish everyone to be as fit as you are able to be, so you can enjoy all off your life adventures!
