Members and guests are welcome to help our friends at Meadowbrook Country Club celebrate their anniversary/member appreciation event
The Raising Rose team has built slowly, as Razor Sharp members Chris Oakes and Jennifer Murphy joined Cynde and family beginning in 2014. This year, Cynde decided to set a more ambitious fundraising goal of $1,000. To do that, she approached Fitness Services Coordinator Janelle Cairo and Personal Trainer Amanda Neumiller, who were happy to get on board and begin recruiting additional team members, to a total of 12. Though in the end, one person was out of town on the day of the event, of the 11 who participated, eight were first-time climbers!
Cynde has been a member of Razor Sharp since 2003. She says that she particularly embraces "the variety of classes at the club because it encourages me to work harder in a group setting than I would on my own." That enjoyment of variety carries through to the sports that Cynde pursues, playing tennis year-round, cross-country skiiing in winter and playing beach volleyball in summer. At the gym, "Razor Sharp always has something new to try. I enjoy participating in events for a cause like the MS Walk at UW Parkside because my friend's daughter with MS has a team. I am not a runner but like to do at least one 5K a year."
She also wants to encourage others to challenge themselves. "Find a cause that's close to your heart and reach out to a friend to join you. I put a flyer up at Razor Sharp in January and with only 12 team members, we raised over $3,000 for the American Lung Association. I'm already excited for next year's Climb!" And she makes this offer to all of you: "If you need encouragement or help getting started, I'd be happy to support you."
Oh, and, as for how Cynde did personally? She was both the fastest and the oldest female on Team Raising Rose Razor Sharp with a time of 9:45. That finish placed her at number 268 out of 2,350 participants! Our sincerest congratulations to Cynde and the whole team. Thank you for giving Razor Sharp the opportunity to support you and the Lung Association.
A particularly good time was had by this winter's class of Tabata Challenge participants -- they put the Razor Sharp Personal Trainers through their paces on Saturday morning, April 1. It may have been April Fool's day, but the workout they designed for their own enjoyment and that of the audience of club members who came to watch (and maybe heckle, just a little!) was NO JOKE! As the slideshow below proves:
When setting goals or a plan for yourself, make those goals and plans SMART (as above).
Bonus: keep something around that helps keep you motivated: Post-It notes with relevant quotations, family pictures…anything that is meaningful to your objective.
Despite all of that, you may hit a rough patch. Before you decide to give up or quit, or even slow down, think back to why you started this journey in the first place!
Wherever you are in your fitness journey, there is always more to learn. Asking questions is one of the best ways to do that. It’s common to spend your time in the gym focused on getting your workout done and moving on with your day. However, that concentration on “doing your thing” can mean that, over time, incorrect form can turn into bad habits – and those can turn into injuries. Asking questions of one of the Personal Trainers before you try a new workout, movement or machine can save you from investing your workout time inefficiently (and so not getting the results you expect) or, more importantly, from hurting yourself. I used to be shy about asking questions. But, this is your health; your Trainer staff want you to succeed, and answering your fitness questions is why we’re here!
Meet Adam at the Washington Avenue or Erie Street clubs, or read more about him here.
Don’t just blast your muscles with a high-rep weight training workout -- give others the tools to squat, lunge, press and curl their way to fitness!
We are looking for fitness enthusiasts to join our Group Ride Team to instruct at our Washington Avenue and Erie Street locations, especially at the early-morning classes (both substitute and permanent). We will provide you with all the tools, training and support to help you become a great instructor! If you want to change people's lives through fitness and get paid to workout:
Previous instructing experience, is not necessary!
This event may be on April 1st, but it is NO. JOKING. MATTER!!!
It’s your turn to watch and heckle the trainers as they suffer and sweat it out! We asked all the participants from this year’s Tabata program to come up with their most despised exercises to create a Tabata Challenge for the personal trainers of Razor Sharp Fitness.
And YOU are invited to come see the training staff get a taste of their own medicine, as well as to enjoy the company of fellow members.
Plus, we'll have refreshments! (What's not to enjoy?)
In addition, those who come to watch the event will be able to register at a discount for our NEXT program, the Summer Shred Throwdown!! (What's that you ask? Only AMAZING...details will be released soon!)
Train the Trainer will take place in the Washington Avenue Club SPS/track area.
